What I Do to Recharge

Ever experience burnout?

If you have, you’re not alone. It happens to the best of us.

If not, we’ll you’re either in denial or you’re not human.

I for one am the workaholic type, I get lost in my work with ease. Hours, days, and weeks begin to blur, and before you know it I’m wondering where the year went.

Every so often, my body says enough is enough. Physical fatigue kicks in then it becomes more difficult to focus and get things done.

When this happens I know it’s time to step off for a bit.

We all need to hit refresh on our life’s browser every once in a while. Take time to refuel, recharge, and get back in sync with those things that inspire us outside of the workspace.

I do a number of things in my downtime to recharge and get my mojo back.

 

Music

 
I don’t know where I would be without my music. It’s the lifeblood of my sanity and creative self. You will seldom EVER catch me without some tunes.

My music collection is rather diverse. Anything from Jay-Z to Maroon 5 to Blink 182 to Michael Jackson to Bush to Alanis Morissette.

No telling what I’ll be listening to on a given day. It all depends on my mood at the moment.

No matter what the mood or moment, music always puts my in a good space. For me it’s like a spa session for my soul, I always feel refreshed afterwards.
 

Reading

 
I love to read. It’s probably the reason why I’m such an Amazon addict now. (If you’re ever thinking of a gift to give me, you can’t go wrong with an Amazon gift card.)

On average, I read about 2-3 books per month. My mind is like a shamwow, it’s designed to soak up what seems like an unlimited amount of information.

I’m a habitual backpacker. Inside my bag is usually 2 books. The one I’m currently reading and the one I’m going to read next.

I read whenever I have down time. I aim to read for at least an hour a day. I keeps me learning new things something and provides me with a difference of perspective. 

I find this rather refreshing and inspiring.
 

Chess

 
Chess is like my first love. My dad taught me how to play when I was around 2 years old and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I play at least one game a day. This keep my mental sharp.

Whenever I come across something that “stumps” me or requires a new way of thinking, there’s nothing like a game of chess to help me unwind and see situations from a different vantage point.

In my opinion life is one big game of chess. You must always play a few moves ahead to win.
 

Running

 
I’m developing a genuine “like” for running. I downloaded the Nike + app on my iPhone earlier this year to keep track of my progress and have been running the streets of NYC ever since.

Running is a great way to clear my mind, get a boost of energy, or get the tension & stress out of my life at any given moment. It’s also great for staying in shape which is always great, but for me it’s more like a form of meditation.

When I go for a run it’s like I’m in a zone where nothing matters and everything around me is still. It’s very refreshing…
 

Family Time

 
At the end of the day, I work as hard as I do so I can provide the best, most comfortable lifestyle for my family. While I really enjoy doing everything on this list, there’s nothing more important or fun than spending time with my family.

I’m blessed to have an amazing wife by my side and two super curious children to keep me on my toes. A gang of nieces and nephews, wacky siblings, and the best parents anyone could ask for.

My family is my world.

They’re my main source of motivation, and any time I get with them is like food for my soul.
